Unsatisfied Workers is NOT a good thing!

There was an AP article that was discussing a recent study that found the only 45% of American workers were satisfied with their job. More than half of the survey population was not satisfied with their work! This is a troubling number. It has implications for your company.

Workers that gain no satisfaction from their work tend to drift along from day to day. They are more likely to:

- Need a push to do the work rather than eagerly engage with it

- Have lower productivity

- Have lower quality

- Not offer ideas for improvement

- Feel less of a stake in helping the company to succeed

- Have lower morale

- Drag down their co-workers

…and when the economy increases, so will your turnover rate

You need to find out how satisfied your employees are to work in your company.  You can observe and you can ask.

You can learn a lot by just looking.

-What is the energy level

-Do people engage their co-workers (about the work)

-and a ton of other indicators. There are so  many things that you can see if you just take the time to look!

Remember that observations are your interpretation of what you see. There may be other reasons for what you see.

Don’t assume! Ask!

Engage your employees in conversations. Ask them:

-         How they like this work

-         How could it be improved

-         How do they like the way things are run

-         How they feel about the future of the company

-         Anything else that either opens up or continues a dialog

Do it now. You’ll get benefits in the short term. It will lower the chances that you will have to replace employees later on.

As always, don’t ask questions, if you aren’t willing to listen to the answers and take action based on the information you receive.
